King Edward VI and Lady Jane Grey

Year Four have been studying the Tudors this term. The children have been particularly interested in the fates of the young royals King Edward VI and Lady Jane Grey. In English we have been imagining we are these unfortunate monarchs and writing letters and diary entries from their perspectives. Through this we explored how to alter the tone of a letter. We concluded that the letter Edward VI would have written to the Duke of Northumbria would be very different to the letter he would write to his respected friend, Lady Jane Grey. Similarly, the diary entry written on Lady Jane Grey’s coronation day would be strikingly different to the day she had to step down and hand over the throne to Mary. Drama exercises really helped us to explore these different ideas.
