Year 6

Summer 2 - 2017

Welcome back, we hope you all had a fantastic half term.

The Theatre

This term, our topic will continue to be ‘The Theatre.’

Central Idea: Performance allows people to express thoughts, ideas and emotions to an audience.

Guiding questions: How do people express themselves? What affects the way in which people express themselves? How do people express themselves through performance?

Last half term, the children enjoyed designing costumes for a theatre character. We will now be learning different techniques and creating a sample of the final costume. We will be continuing to learn about electrical circuits and the children will have a challenge to a prototype of a light up background. We will be looking at coastlines in geography and comparing them to a contrasting location.

English and Maths

In english, we will be focussing our learning around the text ‘Lord of the Flies’ This is a sophisticated text and so far the children are extremely excited about the storyline! We will be writing island descriptions and a diary entry focusing on a main event in the story.

In maths, we will be applying our number skills and understanding to a range of investigations linked to our topic learning. We will be developing the children’s resilience skills and working collaboratively to solve problems.
