Year 6

Summer 1 - 2018

Welcome Back.

We hope that you enjoyed the Easter break and are excited for this half term.

The Theatre

This term, our topic will be ‘The Theatre.’

Central Idea: Performance allows people to express thoughts, ideas and emotions to an audience.

Guiding questions: How do people express themselves? What affects the way in which people express themselves? How do people express themselves through performance?

We will be learning about all aspects of the theatre. We will be exploring stage lighting through our science topic of electricity, costume designs in D&T and investigating the history of film and the theatre. The children have devised their own questions on what they would like to find out more about and they will be pursuing their lines of enquiry.

This half term, we will be revising key maths topics in preparation for the forthcoming SATS tests. We will be revising arithmetic skills, problem solving, statistics, geometry and number skills. Please encourage your child to complete their CPG books.

In English, we will be looking at creating suspense in narrative. We will be reading Roald Dahl’s short story The Landlady and then using key features to plan and write our own suspense stories.

This half term the children will be taking their SATS tests. The tests will start on Monday 14th May. We have a final mock SATS week before the actual week. The children are incredibly calm and well prepared. Please can you avoid booking any appointments during the school day during these weeks and ensure that your child is well rested.

At the end of SATS week, we will be having a special trip for all of the year 6 children. A letter will be sent out with further details.

Thank you for your continuing support.
